NEW IMAGES UP! (posted: 21/05/2011)

I have been so slack regarding images, so I must apologise. If they didn't take so long to put up I would be updating them more, but having to take 5 hours out of the day is a little difficult at the best of times!

I hope I have made it up with my new photos! You will find a new set under 'Adventures' in my gallery which is a fantastic selection of 40 (yes 40!) photos from Goodwood Revival last year. These were taken by myself (the ones that I'm not in obviously) and Bill my security guy. Some of the Dracula's Ball images were taken by other guests so that I could be in the pictures too!

Unfortunately I do not have any photos of my singing on the final day to the crowd, but I did take some photos of the crowd before going onto the balcony. The video of the final song can be seen on You Tube.

My busy period will start from April with a WWII Blitz Ball in South Wales, Dr. Sketchy's in Birmingham, Gaydon Heritage Motor Centre, Petworth House Gentlemen's Evening and Wartime in the Vale for my Birthday weekend!

This year I have decided I need a well deserved holiday abroad so will be jetting off to a Greek island for a week in summer before the War and Peace Show. This should have me set for the last half of my summer madness including WWII Weekender at Stratford Armouries, Weymouth's WWII event, the Twinwood Festival, Goodwood Revival, Tewkesbury Blitz Ball AND I will be flying over to America to do a performance for a WWII Reenactment group, just for the weekend.

Bearing in mind that I also have a full time job and modelling for Heyday Online I think I have packed rather a lot in, don't you?

Some things to look out for on your tellly box...

Antiques Roadshow at Charlecote Park airing on the 10th and 17th April. I don't know which of these I will be on, but keep your eyes peeled!

Kier Home's Blog 24th Nov 2010 (posted: 24/11/2010)

Kier Home has written a really interesting blog entry at this address:

http://thespiae.wordpress.com/2010/11/23/perfect-10-part-three-does-sex-have-to-sell/

I would like to thank Kier for his eloquent writing and flattering blog entry. You will find an exerpt below...

<b>Perfect 10 – Part Three: Does Sex Have to Sell?</b>

One of my Favourite Vargas Girls.

Vargas took girls he felt were the very image of wholesome, All American Girls and painted them, using real life models and a little bit of artistic license, but these are real models, of the time who have been taken and painted, and when the boys were out fighting, you can bet at least one of them had a Vargas Girl in his wallet. But why? I mean, these women aren’t doing anything overly special. They’re simple poses, they’re not giving you any “Come Hither” looks and they’re not threatening to expose themselves in order to get you to like them. The fighting boys in the Army, Navy and Air Force found them a great morale boost all the same. I mean, if Bomber Crews could use them as their Crew Mascot then the girls must have had something right! Take a look at the girl opposite. Yes, she’s showing off a lot of back… but do you see any nipples? No. She’s wearing a simple black number that hides a respectable amount of her body and yet she’s still an attractive girl who shows some sex appeal without putting everything on display! I think that it’s an important message that most people lose sight of now… that you can still wear clothes, be your normal, plain old self and still be alluring. Of course it doesn’t really help that tastes, times and of course, the media have moved on. There’s a lot less noise being made over women undressing for photo shoots or being open about their sexuality… but I suppose in my out-dated mind, there’s still a large difference between hinting at sexuality and walking up and slapping a guy full on in the face with it.

And this is where the introduction comes in. I thought the days of Vargas and girls like his wonderful paintings were a thing of the past, that women would only have the current media coverage of less and less clothes and more and more demand for sexual displays to lead the way… then a few years back I met this lovely lady…

This, ladies and gentlemen is my good friend, Kitten Von Mew.
For as long as I’ve known her, she has had a taste for all things Vintage. This runs from her clothes to her house and all the way down to her job. Miss Kitten Von Mew is a Burlesque performer, and she had been doing it long before the Pussycat Dolls turned up on the scene.

Now, it was the shot on the right that drew me to Kitten. And after complimenting her and discussing how much I loved that she was keeping the 1940&#8242;s pinup tradition alive, she and I became friends and I’m pleased to say that it’s been good 9-10 years since that day and she’s still doing a wonderful job. You see, to me this is what we’re missing at the moment; a good looking girl, she’s no stick insect… she’s not afraid of her curves and she doesn’t worry if someone doesn’t get what she’s doing.

Of course… she’s had the usual trolls asking her to do full nude pics and so forth and I’m pleased to announce that she’s never done so… and so my pride swells even further. She’s set her principals, and she’s not prepared to cheapen her allure and her performance by stripping off completely and putting everything out on show. Every shoot she has done has been tasteful, wonderfully executed and celebrates the beautiful female form without baring all and de-mystifying it. In other words, Vargas, his paintings and ladies like Kitten celebate the simplicity of feminine beauty.

I had the honour of actually seeing her show recently, and after singing and warming the crowd up, she then performed a very energetic, tasteful and fun little fan dance that proved to everyone there that maybe the Vargas Girls and USO Shows in the 1940&#8242;s had it right. She isn’t afraid of her body, respects it enough to leave a lot to the imagination and she has plenty of warm, fun-loving character which she injects into everything she does. You have to love it when in the middle of a performance, someone looks at you, recognises you and with a wink, pokes their tongue out and goes back to having some fun. This is the one thing I love about Kitten. She’s got oodles of charm and personality. She loves the 40&#8242;s, she loves fun and has an appreciation for the less-than-normal way of things. Kitten is also a very loving, very kind and extremely warm-hearted girl. Like the other two ladies I mentioned in my last post, all of this shines through in her pictures and in her shows. She genuinely loves what she does and doesn’t apologise for it. She actually fills you with nostalgia and warmth and an image of the beautiful girls at home in Blighty keeping the home fires burning. That warmth and simple good nature radiates from her and even when singing and winking seductively, showing that infinitely more playful side which I’m sure inspired the name of ‘Kitten’, she is full of personality and those eyes and smiles flash your way with a burst of extra beauty which leaves you dazzled.

Kitten nicely sums up what I started this whole post selection with. Maybe she has things about her body she doesn’t like… maybe she secretly wishes she had the same whatever that she’s seen on another girl, but she has looked beyond that at the bigger picture. She knows and loves the fact that her silhouette, her form makes her who she is and she has come to accept that while she might not always feel it, she’s a beautiful woman. Toss into that the fact she’s an easygoing, funloving gal with a have-a-go attitude and a real patriotic streak and you find that her lovely and quirky personality makes her shine that little bit more than other girls you’ve seen trying the same thing… making her even more attractive. Then finally, you see that she has broken loose of the societal demand to bare all, be stick-thin (Kate Moss, anyone? Euuuugh…) or be some sex object and actually make you use your imagination… a true woman, beautiful, glowing with spirit and quietly aware of the power of confidence and self-respect.

Sometimes I find myself wishing that maybe the world might take a step back and see that maybe we’ve gone too far in our demands on women and our expectations of what should be beautiful. What happened to the simplicity of a smile and a wink of the eye? What happened to the power of the silhouette? What happened to the adoration of the quiet, but beautiful (inside, and therefore out) girl-next-door type? Why can’t girls be who they are and not be made to feel unattractive simply for not fitting this awful concept of a perfect beauty?

Girls, you already have that. Look at all I’ve babbled on about and see that beauty comes from very simple things, and you don’t need to work all that hard to get them! Learn that your body is not your enemy… it’s not shaped the way it is because it knows you hate it… it’s not working on one big personal Vendetta against you. Stop treating your body as your enemy and start embracing it as your friend. It’s a beautiful thing and once you learn to accept that, your real personality will stop hiding away in fear or shame and then you’ll grow more beautiful still! Once you’ve opened up and accepted that you ARE beautiful you’ll be ready for the last and hardest step… the final move… which is to ignore what people expect you to look like and just go out and enjoy who you are and how beautiful you’ve allowed yourself to become. Pity the others who try so hard to conform to this image of perfection so much that they all end up looking very similar and really quite boring. Go ahead and be your own beautiful self!

LADIES! We Salute you!

I know all of this is easier said than done, and thanks for putting up with all of this… but I hope that in the end, maybe at least one thing I’ve said has woken you up to the knowledge that you don’t need to be anything other than who or what you are. I know it’s a hard world out there when it comes to feeling happy with how you look, but I hope I’ve helped, even a tiny bit. You all deserve it.

Goodwood Revival Update Sept 2010 (posted: 22/09/2010)

Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend the prestigious Goodwood Revival weekend where I was entertaining in the VIP areas to racing car drivers and there families!

I was expecting to do my family friendly fan dances, but ended up entertaining the crowds with my singing instead!

I sang in the War Rooms and Driver’s Club VIP areas, watched by the likes of Stirling Moss, Derek Bell and even Chris Evans and Chris Barrie (Rimmer from Red Dwarf)! It was the most wonderful and surreal experience of my life as I was also completely out of my comfort zone with singing rather than performing my Burlesque acts. A huge challenge for me, but a great one at that. I wore my vintage attire in the morning performances (you try singing at 8.30am!) and then donned my famous RAF corset in the afternoon to wake everyone up and boy did they sit up and listen!

I sang all weekend and managed a few impromptu performances backed by the Dad’s Army boys as racing cars rushed by ready for the next race. The noise was incredible and my little PA system couldn’t compete, but I carried on regardless in the hope that I would still be singing to the right soundtrack after the noise had past. I didn’t mind, it’s a racing event not a singing event!

On the last day, I was asked to give out the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place wreaths to the drivers on the track for the last race, which was an amazing request in itself. The highlight was ending the event by singing Vera Lynn’s famous song ‘We’ll Meet Again’ to the crowds of onlookers stood on the circuit. Of course, I was a nervous wreck. I looked out over 2000 faces from the balcony, having just attended one of the most famous events in the country; including Lord March’s exclusive themed dinner party. I had sat next to Prince Eric Sturdza, given 3 famous racing car drivers a lift to the party in my leopard print Picanto (mortifying but hilarious), sat in Sir Jackie Stewart's racing car and now had this huge crowd of people waiting for me to sing a legendary song on the anniversary of the Battle of Britain. I needed a cup of tea and a biscuit.

As the crowd sang along and swayed, the moment caught everyone’s heart strings and even the line of winning racing drivers and Lord March who stood behind me on the balcony took in the moment. After I had finished I took my bow to the cheering mob standing on the racing track, disappeared around the side of the control tower and burst into tears. Pure nerves, exhilaration and exhaustion. Happy tears but also sad that the event was over.

The Goodwood team looked after me so dearly I felt part of a huge family and any little hiccup was promptly sorted. My gratitude goes out to Sue O'Donoghue the entertainments organiser who took me under her wing, Lord March for being such a fantastic chap and asking for me to attend, the other entertainers, the guys who drove me around in their little electric cars and Bill my faithful security hound!

August Update - Vintage at Goodwood (posted: 18/08/2010)

Well Vintage at Goodwood's first year was certainly a show stopper!

The weather wasn't playing ball at all though and I did slip over when rushing over to collect my tickets on Friday which was highly embarassing and I was laughed back to the car by a flock of magpies. Signpostage wasn't great but with so much to organise this was a minor flaw in the proceedings and just made my excitement build as I finally pulled up to the loading bay. Unfortunately Sophie Ellis Bexter's driver couldn't get through a 20ft gap so I was forced to move my car so they could get through the VIP gate to the main stage, but the chaps helping me unload were lovely and cheery.

I parked my car in the carpark opposite Gate B and slipped and slided my way to the entrance. The ground was churned with mud and my poor saddle shoes were not grippy enough to withstand the gloop they were forced to walk upon. I longed to put on the dress and hat I had waiting in the car, but there was no way on this Earth that I was going to don heels and vintage clobber to get covered in muck, so I pulled up my windsail trousers and made my way to The Torch tent. I was already 2 hours late for sound check courtesy of the M25 so went straight back stage to check on my things...Only to realise that I had left my make-up in the car and had to trapse all the way back again.

The Torch tent was so lovely. A massive chandelier hung in the centre of the room flagged by 2 mirror balls and the stage had a black and white ornate 'frame' surrounding it with 2 giant birdcages mirroring each other at either end. The dancefloor was surrounded by dining seating and an art deco themed bar and the whole set up looked beautiful. There was only one slight problem...

The dance floor had the feeling of being aboard a leering ship. The dancefloor sloped alarmingly down to the stage so that with all good intentions, you would start dancing at the top of the floor and by the end of the song we would end up in a glamorous mosh-pit at the bottom. We all took it in good spirits as the bands and DJ were so good that you wanted to dance the whole night away whether it was on a ski slope or level floor! Everyone looked amazing and you got a fantastic mix of 1940's fashion mixed with random hippies in welly boots and mods in shift dresses.

I performed my RAF Fancy fan dance on Friday evening and Lord March had brought along his father (and family entourage) to watch me dance which was awfully sweet. The Kent Lindy Hoppers were there and I got to finally meet some people from Facebook which was fantastic! My dearest friend Viv the Spiv kept spirits sky high too! I sung If I Only Had Wings, We'll Meet Again and Why Don't You Do Right before my fan dance and was really pleased with the response. Singing live is my new challenge and I find it more nerve wracking than taking my clothes off.

On the Saturday I got the chance to walk around the event in the daytime and met up with my family, my sister's friends and my friend Helen of whom I have known since working at Warwick Castle many moons ago and Becky from my daytime job with her lovely husband! It was lovely to catch up, although it felt rather fleeting. The rain poured down at times, but luckily there were rows of vintage stalls that we could take shelter and browse around. The prices weren't a bargain, more boutique was was disappointing, but I guess they had to cover costs. I did buy a rather gorgeous brocade evening gown (late 30's Im guessing) with big silk flowers at the front and a halter neck. Although Mama Mew took one look at it and said 'curtain fabric' I love it and can't wait to take it in so I can wear it. I also bought my friend Helen a motel key fob with a Mexican theme (original 50's).

I was still in my casual wear on Saturday, mortified that the weather still wasn't good enough for heels, but counting myself lucky that I hadn't tried to persist like some of the ladies I saw staggering uncomfortably around, with grass and mud speared onto the heels like kebab sticks.

At about 5pm I went backstage again to erect my birdcage with some help (thank you! xxx) and met with John Miller (Glenn Miller's nephew) of whom I haven't seen since Blenheim 3 years back. We had a giggle and I couldn't wait to see the band perform in the evening. I was on again at 8pm and Viv the Spiv gave me such a wonderful introduction, I was worried that I wouldn't live up to his hype and the cheers as I came on really took me aback. I really enjoyed myself; sat in my birdcage on the front of the stage, then coming out to meet the crowd for my fan dance. A slight wardrobe malfunction meant that I couldn't do as much as I wanted, but I still had a great time performing. I saw Snowboy and his brother beaming at me from the side of the stage, which was great encouragement and knew that my friends and family were watching somewhere beyond the spotlight that was raining down on me from the front. Sitting up there on the stage, watching all of those eager faces was an emotional experience and their support was more well received than they will ever know.

After changing I went out onto the dance floor to meet a few people waiting to say hello and then danced to the John Miller Band's first set before i had to leave. Just before going, John leapt of the stage and gave me some of his CD's and a whopping great kiss. What a lovely chap. Im still waiting for Jon Bongiovi to do the same thing...

I was so well looked after at Vintage at Goodwood and even got to have a scrummy helping of sausage and mash with lashings of gravy on the Friday evening. Ok, so not the best idea in a corset, but I was starving. Roll on next year!

War and Peace 2010...A Look Back (posted: 30/07/2010)

What an epic week. Im sat here at my desk wondering why I haven't got dust in my hair or the distant sound of military vehicles and gunfire in my ears.

The clickety-clack of the keys is no comfort when I know that last week I was staggering around fields full of the most incredible displays, meeting fantastic people and debuting my new Burlesque act!

I started off the week with a totter around the stalls and found mostly German relics and hardly a clothing or vintage bric-a-brac stall in sight! By the end of the week you would have thought I was setting up my own though after discovering some rather bargainous treasures including 1940's dresses at £10 a pop and another Victory Bell, slightly different to my other one for £15. There were some interesting finds amongst the standard military including a pamphlet on 'The Truth About Jews' which is hilarious and reassures us all that they are good people (one of the chapters inside being 'Are Jews Panicky?').

The debut of my Songbird performance on the Wednesday evening was better than I could have ever hoped for and the crowd was huge! I managed to collar 3 gentlemen to stagger onto the stage carrying my birdcage with me in it and reveal me inside. This worked very well, so we did the same every day with different helpers! Thank you to Lee who came laden with beautiful yellow roses to each of my daytime shows and I have dried one which is nestled in my journal. It was lovely to see the Swingtime Sweethearts, Madeleine and Chloe again too! Back at the USO Shows camp I decided to try and get over my fear of singing live. This horror has been part of my life since January and i have tried to over-come this but not succeeded. I decided to record a CD with all my backing tracks from each of my acts to do a 15 minute singing slot. My thinking was that by the time I get to the last song I should be quite recovered, although this did take up until Saturday! I added a new song onto the end which was released in 1935 as a jazzy Irish number and sung as a crooner by Vera Lynn in the 40's. I well up every time I sing it and picture a couple at a soldiers ball having their first and possibly last kiss as he goes back to war. You can watch the video on my You Tube Channel at ...

Kitten von Mew sings When I Grow Too Old To Dream

It was fantastic being back on the USO Shows camp and although my schedule was hectic with a lot of rishing around, it felt like home. I did my warbling at midday, then a family friendly afternoon Burlesque performance with an adult friendly one in the evening on Fri, Sat and Sunday. Try getting dressed using just 1 oil lamp and a compact mirror, let alone trying to stick nipple pasties on evenly and check your stocking seams! It did make me smile though as Im sure not a lot was different for the burlesque entertainers at the 1940's USO shows when they got sent to the front lines.

The crowds at the camp were wonderful and it was super to see familiar faces! I sold out of calendars and just wished I had brought more with me, but in all honesty thought I would be dragging half of them back home with me! One 'thing' I never thought I would see in amongst the public was that darned alien from 'Alien.' Now, I can handle Sci-Fi and horror, in fact I LOVE a good horror film, but plonk it into reality and I don't like that so much. So I have just come off stage from belting out We'll Meet Again and see this mostrosity slowly making it's way through the tables. It has spotted me and I bloody well know it. I freeze and just keep thinking 'It's a man in a suit, it's a man in a stupid suit', but it lunged and I bloted and screamed my way to the back of the USO food truck. I cowered with my head in my hands screaming 'NO NONONONONONONONO!' as it slowly came round the corner and after a while more, offered me its mutated hand so I could scramble out of my hidy hole. There was applause and cheers as I came out holding hands with the Alien but the bugger then lunged and hissed at me again and I ran screaming into the DJ tent until it went away. Later on Sunday evening when I was singing with the Jive Aces I saw it in the back waving its arms in the air along to the music. Im not saying we are on friendly terms but it is progress...

In amongst the performances I also had some calendar signings at the Commerical Vehicle Magazine tent which went really well (thank you to everyone that joined us!), a photo shoot in the main arena and some great photo shoots with Stuart Humphrey where we ventured into a wonderful Egypt display, complete with water fountain and fake camel!

All in all yet another incredible and diverse event and it was great to see even more veterans and actual British soldiers there too this year. Vey humbling. Unfortunately I did lose a reenactor friend to Cystic Fibrosis whilst I was at the show. He was in America but in my thoughts. In British time he passed away at the time I was doing my RAF Fan dance and singing We'll Meet Again, in American time he passed when the generator packed up in the evening at the USO Shows camp. Very monumental, very sad, but an honour to be a small part of his life.

July 2010 Update (posted: 29/07/2010)

I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who showed such support at the War and Peace Show...

To Kieran and Sandra at the USO Shows and all the people who helped out behind the scenes and made the USO Camp more popular than ever, The Clover Sisters who always slap a huge smile on my face whenever I see those lovely girls, to Commercial Vehicle Magazine who advertised my calendars to death and supported me no end (and continue to do so), Terry Elliot and Rex for giving me another amazing opportunity to appear in the main tent and debut Songbird at the event, Lee for giving me beautiful yellow roses after every performance!, Laura for letting me sleep in her caravan after being booted out of the B&B from hell, all the boys who helped carry my birdcage onto the stage with me in it and NOT dropping it, to the entertainers, reenactors and public who gave me a cheerful wave, stopped to chat, bought a calendar, took a photo or whooped at a performance. This was an epic War and Peace Show this year and you all made it happen.

In addition to this, I have uploaded a couple of videos on You Tube. For those of you who didn't know, I have a You Tube Channel and there are some very old videos on there and some more up to date ones! The most recent uploads are singing with the Jive Aces on the last evening and a cover of When I Grow Too Old To Dream which isn't a very well known song but dear to my heart. I sang it at the show after challenging myself this year (with a good old kick up the bum from Kieran and Papa Mew) to start singing live in my performances. I think not only was I fearful that everyone would run screaming for the hills, but the Clover Sisters would belt me over the head with a rolled up newspaper thinking I was trying to steal their slot. Infact they were very supportive and could see the fear in my eyes as I warbled my way through each song. Im determined to conqueor this fear and have nicknamed myself 'The B Side Tease' as I sing the less well known songs of wartime whilst the others belt out the more famous ones beautifully.

To Mike Harlow 8th July 2010 (posted: 08/07/2010)

Mike is one of my Facebook friends and a WWII reenactor in America. Although just 21 and a complete cutie, he suffers from Cystic Fibrosis which has left him needing a lung transplant.

Mike is in critical condition and his friend Stephanie contacted me after receiving my calendar. His Ma has taken the calendar apart and stuck the pictures all around the hospital room with July (I wonder why that is a lot of people's favourite!) closest to his bedside.

My heart goes out to Mike, his family and friends. They have completely moved me with such beautiful and kind messages and their warmth, compassion and morale is something to aspire to.

I have sent them a video message which can be found here which was done at 5am thismorning, so apologies for the unrehearsed banter, but it was from the heart:

yyyyyy

I will be dedicating a photo set to Mike Harlow this year and am in the planning stages.

Enchanted Burlesque and April Update (posted: 27/04/2010)

On Saturday I performed at Enchanted Burlesque at The Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham. Although I may have been doing this for 5 years, I was really rather nervous. My acts are creative but traditional compared to the hurly burly rockabilly girls that grace the stage with hip swinging 50's tunes. I enjoy creating the atmosphere of 1940's acts with cheekiness, patriotism and authenticity. My nerves were due to the fact that I did not think my rather 'tame' acts would hold their own against these other girls who tread the boards of Burlesque festivals on an annual basis.

In doing so many 'family friendly' shows, my acts have been tamed and edited to still entertain but not offend my WWII event audiences. This is a difficult task, especially when nothing really comes off and the performance lasts the same amount of time as my adult shows! It was exhilarating doing another adult performance, brushing off my pasties for the first time this year and being able to give a 'full bodied', unbridled performance. The reaction from the audience was startling and wonderful! Topped with a standing ovation from a large group for my RAF Fan Dance, I couldn't sleep for laughing that night. I performed my RAF Fancy Fan Dance and 102 KVM Radio striptease. What would be the most logical thing to do 3 hours before you have to leave? Change your striptease music and half the costume fo course! Yes, Kitten von Plonker decided to alter her routine and had 3 practises before rushing to the car. Although a hasty move it was definitely the right one and the routine feels a lot better for the changes!

I would like to thank Angel LaVey and her partner for looking after us so well and the girls, Joe Black and Etienne for being such lovely people. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and cannot wait to come back next year!

Just a quick update regarding the calendar...I have just received the proof copy which I have a couple of picky niggles about, but they are nothing to stop the calendar from being printed so we are ready to print the bulk order! Woo hoo!

April Update! (posted: 07/04/2010)

Well I have been busy busy busy!

Things are changing, a new year, a new look! I haven't updated in a while, but as they say 'Abscence makes the heart grow blonder...' Yes Kitten's dark locks are going lighter! A summery warm strawberry blonde is in order and I'm looking forward to revealing my new look in this weekends photoshoot with Candee Photography and the following weekend with Kate Donovan!

My hair is at the inbetween stage or dramatic orange with white roots (seeeee-xy!) but soon it shall be the right colour and you will see the results.

My calendar pre-launch has been going very well and we have received a good amount of orders already! If you wish to pre-order your copy then email me! Calendars are £10 plus £2.10 postage (UK) for up to 2 calendars. If you require wholesale then get in touch.

Preperations for this year's big events is underway. I have completed 1 costume and am onto my second and last for the summer season. My new big prop is up ready for practising and I am set for putting my Songbird act together!

The knee is healing well and the stitches are out. Now just an unsightly scab, I will be healed in no time!

I look forward to seeing you all at this years events and am so excited to be back! My first performance will be this month for Enchanted Burlesque in Birmingham. Tickets are selling out fast, so make sure you get yours before they go!

March Update and Vintage at Goodwood News! (posted: 15/03/2010)

Firstly, Happy Mother's day to Ma Mew who still hasn't received her gift.

This weekend I was due to go up north to see my dear friend Kate Donovan of Donovan's Darlings. It was in aid of the completion of my Songbird costume! After packing up the car, I walked back up towards my little cottage and suddenly met the ground (which was not happy to see me). I hurt my knee rather badly and found myself in hospital for most of Saturday, needing stitches and a tetnus jab (I do not do syringes and prefer needles to go through fabric...). A very sore kitty is no having to rest up and it has been awful, cancelling performances and my shoot. I will hopefully have the stitches out in around 2 weeks as it was quite deep.

Anyway! On to some good news! The Vintage at Goodwood publicity shoot when exceptionally well and it was wonderful, finally meeting the team behind the event. Lord March graciously put me up in his West Wing and the hair stylist, make-up team and fashion stylist worked tirelessly getting everyone ready. We chose a 1940's crepe evening gown out of my own collection, so it was nice to wear one of my own garments. I also got to wear some incredibly beautiful jewellery, worn by Joan Crawford in the 1939 movie 'The Women.' I have managed to locate some images on the web of Joan wearing the dress clip on a turban and the necklace, so that is wonderful! The diamond and aquamarine set was worth around £80 000 so I walked around as if balancing a pile of books on my head, lest one of the stones should fall out and I make the thing worthless. What an honour though!

When getting my make-up done, I closed my eyes to have false eyelashes applied, opened them and there was Lily Allen sat next to me. I must admit I did a little double take as she is such an unmistakeable face and I didn't realise she was going to be there! Obviously very busy and tired from the awards ceremony she had come from the night before, she was transformed into a 1950's beauty with little effort.

I very much enjoyed the Tapestry Room photo of which can be seen on the Vintage at Goodwood website.

Katherine Higgins of Antiques Roadshow fame was a complete doll and I feel we shall become dear friends. All of the staff were bright, organised and nothing was too much bother. I enjoyed chatting with Lord March no end about the house and lavish themed parties he holds!

On the day of the shoot I was out of bed by 6am, having not slept a wink. Excitement had gotten the better of me and I lay awake, listening to the hustle and bustle of things being moved around downstairs, ready for the shoot. When I went downstairs I went into the dining room and talked with the butler about it's Egyptian theme and how it was uncovered. I managed to nibble a piece of toast before being whisked away to have my hair and make-up done.

The first shoot was outside for the paparazzi, in front of the big house. It was cold but adrenalin made the whole thing quite breezy and I did not notice the chill. All I remember was a lot of shouting and camera flashes before filing back inside for a cup of tea. We then got picked up by people carriers to another outdoor location that looked like a little bus stop for some more shots, but did not go to the other outdoor location for some reason which was a shame as it was gorgeous!

The Tapestry Room photo set was taking inspiration from a famous photo using a large step ladder and chandelier. These were lovely images, but haven't been used by the papers, which is a shame!

After this, we were treated to light nibbles before departing! So far I have seen features in The Guardian and London Evening Standard, but I'm sure there would have been more.

Keep checking up on the Vintage at Goodwood website and remember to book your tickets in advance!

February News Update! (posted: 10/02/2010)

Firstly HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! This weekend I will be driving all the way down to Cornwall to Burgh Island to perform and am currently busy adding to costume pieces!

Although things are busy and I am practically booked up until October, I am planning to create 2 or 3 new acts this year for the WWII events.

The latest is Songbird which will debut in July in the Victory Marquee at War and Peace. I am currently creating some costume pieces as well as having a corset made by my talented friend Liz Fitz in Stratford upon Avon. She will be helping me create a few costume pieces, which will take the load off me a little!

The other 2 acts will be cheerful, family friendly teases that won't require me to use feather fans and break them in strong winds whilst performing outside!

Fingers crossed I can debut these other acts in summer, although my main concentration is getting Songbird ready as this is a big act and I want everything to be perfect.

The other main news that all of you have been dying to hear will be aired in March, I just have a few loose ends to tie up and a few whips to crack!

I am meeting Katherine from the Antiques Roadshow and Wayne Hemmingway in a publicity photo shoot for Vintage at Goodwood which is extremely exciting! Hopefully you will see the outcome in advertisements, the programme and press. I feel like the luckiest gal alive to be part of the event and am very much looking foward to performing Songbird and RAF Fancy at the show on the Friday and Saturday evenings.

kisses

Gaydon Heritage Motor Centre Vintage Commercial Vehicle Show 12th-13th June 2010 (posted: 22/01/2010)

Kitten is performing at this classic commercial vehicle event 4 times a day throughout the weekend!

This is the third Classic and Vintage Commercial Show to be held at Gaydon in conjunction with Kelsey Publishing and the 11th year that a show displaying Classic Commercials has taken place at the Heritage Motor Centre.
2009 saw over 425 vehicles attending ranging from Mini Vans through to the largest Scammell’s manufactured with plenty of Fords, Austins and Morrises in between.

As last year Kelsey Publishing will be having their own trade stand at the show and there will be 60 plus trade stands outside with over 10 indoor traders selling anything from vehicles spares, photographs, die-cast models, brochures, tools and many more things that are vehicle related. All the trade stands are commercial vehicle/transport related so you should find some of those transport related items that you are looking for. Most of our traders have been with the show from before it moved to Gaydon and in some cases this is the only show that some of the traders now attend such is the appeal of the show.

The indoor model show was its usual great success having more than 160 tables of models displayed, whether they are kit built or scratch built in many different scales and there is a vast array of working radio control models both inside and outside the museum building.

If you are a commercial vehicle enthusiast then this, the largest classic commercial show in Europe, is the major show of the year for you to attend. We recommend a day and a half to walk around the show and see everything. We look forward to seeing you there over the weekend.

Apologies and Updates (posted: 21/12/2009)

Firstly I would like to apologise for not appearing at the charity event at The Victoria in London, I slipped on some ice and injured my ankle and back so was unable to perfor. I know I let a lot of people down, but am partially, if not all, putting blame on the weather conditions and gravity. I hope you enjoyed the burlesque you did receive and that I will get to perform for you in 2010 at another event.

Onto some good news! I will be performing at Vintage at Goodwood next year along with some fantastic USO Shows events and War and Peace. 2010 is set to be an incredibly exciting year along with a special announcement in February!

I am also working on a brand new act and am currently creating costume pieces and getting a corset made by my friend Liz Fitz in Stratford upon Avon. This act will be debuted in summer 2010 at War and Peace or earlier and then performed at Vintage at Goodwood!

I have been doing some modelling for Vivien of Holloway and you should see my Christmas photo's on their website around about now! I will be modelling some more Vivien of Holloway dresses shortly so check out their gorgeous range!

Make sure you catch my performances at the USO Shows on New Years Eve at Winchelsea New Village Hall in Sussex and the Blitz Ball at Claverdon Village Hall in Warwickshire on 30th January!

Kitten von Mew performing at Vintage at Goodwood 13th and 14th Aug 2010 (posted: 18/12/2009)

Kitten von Mew will be performing in the 1940's Torch Club on Friday and Saturday evening and walking around the event on the Saturday daytime! This incredible event is a 1st for Goodwood and is a must for anyone who loves vintage fashion, entertainment and music

http://www.vintageatgoodwood.com/index.php

Vintage at Goodwood – 13, 14, 15 August 2010 – is the first of what will be an annual music and fashion led celebration of creative British cool from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s & 80s. Featuring the leading DJs, bands, collectors, purveyors of vintage clothing and vintage vinyl from each decade, as well as contemporary bands inspired by Britain’s rich cultural history.

Kitten von Mew will be performing 2 acts, one on each of the nights to celebrate the 1940's side of things with her RAF Fancy and a brand new Songbird act to be debuted in summer 2010.

Friday’s entertainment begins with the most unbelievable George Formby impersonator, P.E. Casper , welcoming you in as only he can, and he’ll be hosting the entire day too. Following the first of many DJ set’s today by the legendary Jeff’s Two Tone Boogie is pianist/singer Mike Sanchez . The busiest artist in any scene, Mike will give us the burning, rough and tough 40’s piano-pumping R&B and Boogie that he’s famous for. It was only through lack of space that he’s not headlining. After another short set from Jeff we then begin the first of our three elegant Tea Dances throughout the weekend. 40’s dancing wasn’t all about the Jitterbug. What about all those beautiful social dances such as the Foxtrot , the Quickstep and the Waltz ? We are proud to have Brooke Garvey’s ‘Swing Dance Company’ in residence to show us how whilst we’re dancing to our period tea dance band. You don’t need a partner, anyone can come along. Straight after tea it’s back to the pyrotechnic Mike Sanchez for another killer set. We can’t dance all day and night without a break so it’s time to be seated for our incredible Friday night cabaret. George Formby will introduce Burlesque star and favourite pin-up of the 40’s scene - Kitten Von Mew (who’ll treat us to a few songs too). After we’ve been wowed it’s back to Jeff’s Two Tone Boogie behind the decks to get you on the floor with his killer selection of Swing , Boogie and R&B . 9.30 and time for our first headliner - I’m having flown back from New York ex-pat James Langton - who now leads the US east coast Swing scene as a band leader, arranger and clarinettist and I’ve got him to reform his classic 18 piece UK Swing band ‘The Solid Senders’ especially for ‘Vintage’. He is a legend in this scene and people can hardly believe that he’s appearing. As he exits the stage, after a short break with Jeff we have our first midnight set of torch songs and 40’s standards from a very, very special guest star vocalist . Each evening we’re keeping the identities secret until the show. They may be main stage artists coming in to treat you to a unique performance. Who knows? I’m not telling. Up go the lights and it’s onto the floor for the last time tonight with Jeff’s Two Tone Boogie, with dancing into the early hours.

At Vintage, we’re very keen on dance instruction and so Saturday’s entertainment will start with Tap dance lessons at 10 am. At midday we have the loud and brash 16 piece Be Bop orchestra ‘Pete Long’s Gillespiana’ paying tribute to Jazz trumpet legend Dizzy Gillespie followed by the first of many sets today by London’s number one 40’s DJ ‘Tim Hellzapoppin’ . Shortly after, The Torch presents the hotly-tipped ‘Laura B and the Moonlighters’ . The stunning Laura and her band are currently causing a massive stir in the Swing and R&B scene and we’re proud to have them. After her first set we’re back to Tim to bring us swinging up to our second Tea Dance of the weekend. Presented, yet again, by the famous Brooke Garvey’s Swing Dance Company, there are plenty of partners to dance with if you’re on your own and you can Foxtrot with confidence for the rest of the afternoon to our resident tea dance band. It’s a quick set by Tim Hellzapoppin’ and we’re back with our second performance of the evening from Laura B and the Moonlighters. At 8 o’clock it’s time to take to your seats for cabaret and I am proud to present one of the all-time institutions of British Comedy – Barry Cryer . Barry will make us laugh at his vintage comedy anecdotes and gags before he introduces us to, for the second time this weekend, UK’s star of Burlesque ‘Kitten Von Mew’. Kitten will be previewing her new routine too and giving us a few beautiful songs and then it’s back to Barry to get us in the mood for the night ahead. Following another killer set from Tim Hellzapoppin’ we present this evening’s headliner. The Torch is very proud to present the nephew of Glenn Miller in concert – The John Miller Orchestra . John plays the exact arrangements of all those hits that his Uncle wrote with his 16 piece orchestra and so it doesn’t get any better than this. After a short interval with Tim it’s over to another of our special midnight torch sets. You will never believe which surprise international star it will be tonight. At 12.30 it’s back to the DJ Tim Hellzapoppin’ to blast through his rated selection of Swing, R&B and Boogie to finish the night with a bang!

On a truly breathtaking site – nestling into the South Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (and soon to be National Park), with access to the wonderful beaches and harbours of coastal West Sussex – Vintage at Goodwood will bring together lovers of the music, fashions, food and lifestyles of the decades that gave Britain its creative heritage. And then there’s the accommodation. From onsite luxury of the Goodwood Hotel, to ‘Glamping’ in secluded glades, Vintage at Goodwood will give you a unique opportunity to holiday in the most beautiful area of Southern England.

Sitting slap bang in the middle of a sporting estate, Vintage at Goodwood is a place to play! HEYDAY VINTAGE CLOTHING (posted: 23/10/2009)

Well last time it was an interview with my corset maker Alexis Black and now I would like to introduce to you a gorgeous lady who has curves to die for. She is the owner of Heyday Vintage, selling and creating reproduction vintage for modern sized women. I can happily say that I wear her satin 40's dress more than any other evening dress in my wardrobe! Her clothing screams the 1930's, 40's and 50's in a stylish and practical way. She uses good quality fabrics and the cut is ideal for those with curves - bringing out the best of a womanly shape. Please let me introduce to you Shona van Beers...

Tell us about yourself and Heyday Vintage!
I started out in the vintage world at the sweet age of 15, when I joined the local Rock n Roll classes with my Mum. We sat for hours together gathering petticoats and devising our outfits. I remember when I turned 16 and all the boys sang "sweet sixteen" to me for that whole year!
I have never looked back, now I teach lindy hop and Balboa and I of course have Heyday.

What do you love about 30's and 50's fashions?
I love the fitted waists of the 30's through to the 50's, and even up to early 60's. I need a waist to show off my curves and I think alot of girls are the same. It makes an outfit so elegant and sexy without needing to show heaps of flesh. I have developed a passion for the hats of the same era, and the top shelf of my wardrobe is slowly filling up with all sorts of head confections

So you have a favourite item of clothing from your store?
Oh man, actually I get so excited about what is coming out NEXT, so at the moment it is a sweet late 40's two peice top and skirt that I am working on.

How do you come up with the ideas?
Because I have been doing it so long for myself a lot of it is already in my head. A movie or picture will jog my memory and it will morph before my eyes. I will look at modern fashion and see how they have interpreted a vintage style and it will get me thinking. I also wake up in the middle of the night with pictures in my head! The problem is choosing what to bring to life and making it commercial enough.

Why did you choose Kitten as a model and what do you think she will bring to your clothing company?
Besides that she has all those curves in just the right places, she is aware of herself in a way that is alluring to male and females. I would like more women to know and understand their own power like that, as it holds its own without belittling others. I am not sure men can do the same thing as it is such a feminine energy. Plus she is fun and I am all for fun!

Have you any plans for a new clothing range this winter?
Yes, my Ladies Gab Jackets. I am really chuffed with them and hope that everyone loves them as much as I do. They dress up my trousers and, because they are fitted at the waist and hip, look smart enough to wear with a skirt. I have tried to address the issue of being pretty and warm at the same time!

Kitten von Mew teams up with local artist! (posted: 11/09/2009)

Kitten von Mew has teamed up with a Stratford upon Avon artsist and prop maker. Modelling for some of his artwork based on mythical characters, Kitten von Mew is going even further back in time than the 1930's!

This isn't the only project they have together. Thanks to his background in props, he will be helping her create a fantastic backdrop to a new Burlesque performance which will be seen in summer 2010. This prop will still be reminiscent of the USO Shows - Easy to travel with and construct!

After Bethune... (posted: 11/09/2009)

Well I have just come back from the Victory Circuit in Bethune, performing with the USO Shows! Not knowing what to expect we made the journey from Dover on the ferry to Calais and took the 2hr journey through France to the beautiful town of Bethune.

Bethune Square is a gorgeously ecclectic mix of buildings, some of which look straight out of a fairytale. The town hall (it says 'Hotel' on the front, which is a tad confusing) was a fantastic gothic meets art deco affair. The stage was already set up when we arrived and I was pleased to see that it was even enough that I could perform on it, rather than the dance floor!

The Clover Sisters and Memphis Belle were there and we all had a fantastic time! the USO Shows was incredibly well received by everyone and I don't think they were expecting such great entertainment! We performed in Bethune Square on the Saturday evening and in a sports hall on the Friday. After my RAF Fancy fan dance in Sunday I was lifted onto the shoulders of a troop of reenactors and then climbed onto the bonnet of an American and a British Military truck for photos! The square was buzzing, the crowd were electric and the fireworks that rain upon us at the end of the evening made us wish we could stay another night.

I performed my When you Wish Upon a Star the 1st night with RAF Fancy Fan Dance after special request and then a family friendly RAF Fancy the second evening.

On the Sunday daytime we went back into the square and watched all of the vehicles park up, from WWII motorbikes to huge mlitary trucks and armoured vehicles, it was a sight to behold. People recognised me and waved, I got to meet some bagpipers from Scotland and rest with a well earned cup of tea before the trudge home.

I would like to thank the Clover Sisters for making me giggle and feel part of the girls, their support is greatly appreciated, to Kieran and Sandra of the USO Shows who treat me like family and to the other entertainers, helpers and dancers who make the show so fantastic.

kisses

ELECTRA DESIGN CORSETS (posted: 25/08/2009)

I would like to introduce to you the first interview of hopefully many I will be doing for the website! There are some fabulous independant clothing companies out there that have made me clothing or I have modelled for and it is about time I gave them the credit they deserve by giving them an article on my site!

I would like to introduce you to Alexis Black, my corsetier. Alexis made my very first custom corset and we have stayed very close friends ever since! We finally met face to face last year in LA which was an incredibly moving experience for me. Her works of art have entered by Burlesque performances and modelling shoots for years now so I would like her to be the very first interview. You can go direct to her website from her banner on my links page, but for now here's Alexis...

Tell us about yourself!
My name is Alexis Black and my business is called Electra Designs. I am a fashion designer specializing in custom corsetry. I have been making corsets for 20 years, and have been a professional corsetiere since 1999. I'm based in Houston, Texas, USA, and I make corsets for people all over the world. My web site is still under construction, but I always post pictures of my work on my live journal http://electradesigns.livejournal.com/. I am currently accepting orders at http://electradesigns.livejournal.com and my Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5290660.

What made you want to create corsets?
I have loved to sew and design ever since I was a little girl. I like to challenge myself, so I gravitate toward complex, highly engineered garments. Few garments are as difficult or rewarding to make as corsets. I delight in the very detailed process of design and construction. I always find new ways to improve my work, so corsets remain a fun and ever-challenging pursuit. Essentially, corset making is my favorite hobby. I love it so much, I found a way to do it full time and get paid for doing what I love. If everyone did what they loved for a living, the world would be a much better place.

How do you set yourself above or apart from the rest of the corsetiers out there?
I spend a lot of time and thought on the details; you know, those "little things" no-one knows about but me. Corsets are actually a culmination of many "little things". Many corset makers overlook these important details to save time and money. To me, corsetry is art. It's my passion. I could make a lot more money doing just about anything else, but I am so enraptured by the art of corsetry, and all the processes that result in the final product. I just can't imagine doing anything else. I also specialize in remote fittings. Remote fittings allow me to make a fully custom, perfectly fitted corset for just about anyone in the world without ever meeting them in person. If you have a camera, a means of sending and receiving packages, and internet access, I can make you a beautifully constructed, perfectly tailored corset. The market is saturated with corsets. One of the things that makes Electra Designs corsets so special is my personal interaction with my clients. I spend a lot of time working with each individual client, learning about their style, body, preferences, limitations, purpose and ideas in order to create for them a corset that is as beautiful and unique as they are. I like to think of myself as the medium through which my clients create their dream corset. My philosophy is that every person is so special and unique. There is enough conformity in the world. Commerce needn't be cold and impersonal, and every person deserves a hand made (with love and attention), beautifully fitted special garment that will last many generations. Disposable clothing is a thing of the past.

Do a lot of people wear corsets nowadays?
These days, more people wear corsets than you might think. Back when I started making corsets for fun at age 15, no one I knew seemed to know what a corset was, much less have any desire or reason to wear one. Thanks to the internet, corsets are easily researched and purchased. Ordinary people wear corsets for all kinds of reasons, from special events to every-day clothing, from fetishists to soccer-moms, from performers to wall flowers. Men and women of all sizes, shapes, professions, personalities and styles wear corsets for reasons too numerous to list. Corsets are not old-fashioned torture devices designed to make fat people look skinny. In fact, a well made, properly fitted corset can be as comfortable as your favorite pair of jeans and just as practical. Personally, I think of corsets as a must-have staple for the wardrobe. My clients are so diverse. Each one has their own unique style and purpose for their corset. It's so much fun working with these amazing, interesting, beautiful people. I love to help them express themselves through the co-creation of their very own, one-of-a-kind hand made corset. I make corsets for every type of person and purpose. The possibilities are limitless. Every new order is a new excuse for me to indulge in my favorite hobby.

What has been your favourite creation and why?
It's really hard to decide which of my creations I like the best. It's almost like choosing a favorite child. I have made hundreds of custom and standard sized corsets, and each one is special to me. I must admit, I especially love working with clients who like taking risks, are creative, and who grant me creative license. That's why I love working with Kitten von Mew. She has really great ideas, which are so much fun to manifest, and she gives me creative freedom to interpret her concepts and ad my own special touches. Her costumes are themed and memorable. Making corsets for Kitten makes me feel like a child at arts and crafts time in school!

I also really love working with plus sized women and transgenders because the corsets are so special and important to them. Despite a positive shift in societal standards of beauty, many people still spend their days feeling ugly and out-of-place. They don't fit into conventional clothing sizes, so they believe there is something wrong with them and their bodies. Many of the corsets I most loved making were made for ordinary humans with bodies that don't fit the fashion mold. It's so rewarding for me to watch them lace up for the first time, to see them go from someone with low self esteem to sexy supermodel as they watch their body yield to the transformative nature of a garment perfectly made for their unique body and needs. It's great fun to design for models and performers like Kitten von Mew, but I receive unique gratification when designing for unconventional beauties as well.

Is there a particular style that attracts you most?
I like many styles, but am particularly drawn to hourglass, long line corsets. I love the way long-line corsets shape and give structure to the entire torso. In my opinion, the best corset style for most modern female figures is the long line underbust because the style gently smoothes over the body, controlling and accentuating the shape, while allowing for comfort and versatility.

How did you and Kitten meet?
Kitten von Mew and I met way back in 1999, I believe. I was the first person ever to sell custom corsets on ebay (can you believe how far it's come in 10 short years?!). Kitten purchased several corsets from me. We have been dear friends ever since.

What do you like about Kitten's style?
I love Kitten's elegant, classic style because it's sophisticated, playful, feminine, and tailored. She is not afraid to express herself through fashion, and she never takes herself too seriously. There are a lot of "pinup" models and performers out there, but few with the refined grace and simple elegance Kitten so consistently exhibits.

Will you make more corset's for her in the future? Any furture projects?
Of course! Kitten Von Mew and I have collaborated on numerous corset-based costumes. We have big plans for future projects. Kitten will be performing at several WWII events so keep an eye out for her fun and clever uniform-inspired corsets. I get excited just thinking about it!

August News Update (posted: 10/08/2009)

Well, I have been hard at work designing some new promotional bits and pieces that integrate the USO Shows! Look out for new postcards and button badges at my next events!

On thursday the 6th August I attended a press shoot at the Stratford Armouries, advertising their 1940's event in a couple of weeks. I will not be able to attend, but am working with the Armouries on future projects including a WWII exhibition of which I think is crucial.

The pictures will be in papers such as Stratford Herald, Stratford Observer, Warwick Courier, Coventry Evening Telegraph and a Rugby paper, so keep your eyes peeled this week!

The photos feature an original 1940's dress bought from Heyday Vintage, some fabulous military vehicles and some rather strapping gents.

This month I am performing at the Hanger Dance in Kent on the 15th August, a fantastic event that I am really looking forward to! On the 21st August my fantastic photographer Kate Donovan of the Donovan's Darlings will be staying at my little cottage to do some photos and have a giggle! We will be taking some studio shots, location and some using my little house!

From the August Bank Holiday I will be jetting off to sunny...Swanage to trapse around the Steam Fair and have a little break before I make the trek to Bethune (France) with the U.S.O. Shows on 4th September.

I have a few photos that I want to pop up, but my Photoshop actions are having a 'Senior Moment' and for now I am not able to. I promise I will have something for you in the next week or two.

kisses

Looking back at War and Peace 2009 (posted: 31/07/2009)

I am back from War and Peace and currently recovering from a busy week! I enjoyed it no end and had a great time performing in the daytime and evening. The main reenactment field was an incredible mix. Realistic trenches, camps, vehicles and themed 'scenes' ranging from WWII to Vietnam with a Juicy Lucy's oriental themed bar.

Camping was very different for me and I forgot how much you can hear through a thin bit of canvas! With music blaring all night long, a lady with an incurrable case of 'witches laughter' and small explosives being let off by over excitable youths, I felt a little tired come the morning.

Putting make-up and false eyelashes on at 8am after a such night seems like a feat in itself, but once up I couldn't wait for the camp's breakfast! The North Oxfordshire MVT fed me well and boy did I need it. I must admit that I did have seconds of their scrumptious full english breakfast and this would set me up for the day until dinner time!

The Portaloo's were fabulous...at the start of the week...but come Thursday the company decided that Swine Flu and bacterial infections was a must have this season and didn't fill up the soap or antibacterial spray. By friday morning there was no water in the taps. Thank goodness I had my own supply of antibacterial wash. Anyone that knows my OCD tendancies with germs will understand how much I must have been inwardly freaking out, but I kept my cool!

The USO Camp was set up really well, more spaced out than I had seen it at other events, so more people could fit in the U shape. Unfortunately the intimate set up didn't create a wind barrier and I was unable to perform on 1 occassion due to the weather, but boy! What a great atmosphere! The soldiers came in 2 by 2 (hurrah! hurrah!), the Brits, the Germans and U.S. too (hurrah! hurrah!)... I could have stayed in the USO Camp all day. It is just lovely sitting there watching the world go by, listening to great music.

The Clover Sisters were on top form. They had a new spin, performing little jigs before each song. They are so entertaining and the soldiers went crazy for them! Swingtime Sweethearts were just as warm, welcoming and fun as usual but belted off to their next slot in the main tent before they had time to breathe. My RAF Fancy costume went down a treat. It's debut was infact held in the Victory Marquee on the Wednesday evening, along with my new costume for Wish Upon a Star. The War and Peace entertainment team liked the Wish Upon a Star act so much, they have asked me to become official entertainment for next year! I am a USO girl through and through though, so I want to make sure I have enough time at the camp as well as in the main tent. I finally met Kas, a beautiful singer who was perfoming in the main tent and she has a gloriously trained voice. I sound excatly like her in the shower, it's just a shame that no one else hears it but me ;)

I got to ride in a half-track vehicle around the show on the Friday after some big rain storms. This was really great and gave me a chance to promote myself as I wasn't in the programme (boooo...)

In the evenings I did a 9.10pm performance which got a little more risque. Still the same cheek and fun, but with nipple pasties thrown in! The Friday evening was the debut of 102 KvM Radio, a fun little striptease with a great voice over piece. This went down so well that one of the soldiers threw his cap in the air and it landed in the camouflage canopy! The next night was my RAF Fancy with RAF nipple pasties which are so much fun!

I had an incredible experience and cannot wait for next year!

USO SHOWS - WWII Entertainment (posted: 08/06/2009)

http://www.usoshows.com/

USO Shows offered amazing entertainment for troops in WWII. This ranged from dance, to singing, comedy and Hollywood stars entertaining American troops throughout the war.

USO Shows is a UK based group that recreates this entertainment for events, balls and fairs across the country. Setting up camp with a USO canteen truck, themed entertainment, military vehicles, singers, dancers and 40's music, the USO Show transports you back to the 1940's!

From the Swingtime Sweethearts to the Kent Lindy Hoppers, Clover Sisters to D.J. Jive, there is a full host of entertainment for any event.

I am lucky enough to be their official Burlesque entertainment, having created family friendly dances especially for them! My aim is to show that Burlesque entertainment can be a fun show for all the family.

The USO Shows are ideal for any event from steam rallies to Army Base entertainment and is a well known name for WWII entertainment.

I have decided to go all out this year and create some patriotic costumes for my performances!
